Turkish Flour Yeast and Ingredients Promotion Group (UTG) participated with an info stand in Alimentaria Mexico 2014 Fair held for the 14th time in Mexico City of Mexico between 3-5 June 2014, which attracted 250 firms from 12 countries.

Turkish Flour Yeast and Ingredients Promotion Group’s stand was visited by our Ambassador in Mexico Mr. Ahmet ACET and the Commercial Counsellors Mr. Timur DİKBAYIR and Mr. Yavuz DEĞİRMENCİOĞLU.

The fair covered the following product groups: food and beverage production, distribution, marketing. Sub-products were: dairy products, desserts, fruits and vegetables, meat and meat products, fish and fishery products, jams and frozen goods, drinks, organic foodstuffs and equipment, food preservation and packaging of food and beverage for restaurant sector.

Turkish Flour Yeast and Ingredients Promotion Group promoted the products included in its field of activity, particularly flour, yeast, starches and other export products, as well as Turkey’s potential at the fair in which it had participated for the first time in 2013.

Turkey, which is the world’s top exporter of flour, carried out an effective promotional activity at the fair. At the info stand of Turkish Flour Yeast and Ingredients Promotion Group, a cookbook prepared in Spanish and English languages and containing recipes of sweet and salty bakery products, and a catalogue introducing the sector were distributed to the visitors, and various bakery products were offered to the visitors during the fair. In addition, a baker’s set consisting of kitchen apron, handbag and cook’s cap carrying the name and logo of the Promotion Group were distributed.

The sand animation shows performed by the sand artist Mr. Veysel ÇELİKDEMİR at UTG’s stand during the fair attracted great interest. The TV channel “Canal Once” filmed the sand animation show performed at our stand, and interviewed the artist. Information on Turkey’s flour sector and its place in the world exports was given during the interview.

The question asked most frequently at the fair which attracted intensive interest from visitors was whether Turkish firms had distributors in Mexico. The recent years saw an increase in Mexico’s imports of wheat flour and yeast, with its wheat flour imports rising by 5% to around $ 50 million, and its yeast imports increasing by 6% to $ 26 million in the year 2013. The whole of its wheat flour imports and most of its yeast imports are made from the USA. Mexico has a dense population with widespread consumption of products that are similar to Turkish bakery products. “Tortilla” is a foodstuff that is consumed the most and that is made of maize as well as of wheat flour in the recent years. With such characteristic, Mexico has a significant potential for Turkish flour.
