TFYI Cookie Caravan in Philippines

24.07.2014

Hearty and delicious cookies produced by Filipino-Chinese Bakery Association, Inc. members using Turkish flour were distributed in the schools located in Metro Manila, which is a manifestation of UTG’s determination to make a contribution to the communities located in the regions where UTG’s presence is felt.

UTG Chairman Mr. Turgay Ünlü said: “We stand by the Filipino people in the National Nutrition Month celebrations reminding us of the importance of nutrition. Correct nutrition is a very important tool from the standpoint of both health and children’s learning. Well-nourished children become more efficient at classroom. With UTG Cookie Caravan program, we are trying to provide support to the Filipino Government aiming to make health and nutritional services available to the low-income youths.”

UTG Cookie Caravan made it possible to distribute 16,000 boxes of cookies and 16,000 bottles of water in 17 state-run primary schools in the cities of Caloocan, Mandaluyong, Navotas, Paranaque, Quezon and Valenzuela. Said activity was attended by Turkish Ambassadress Esra Cankorur and Commercial Attaché Cezmi Beşoğul as well.

Benefiting from the cookie distribution, 10-year-old Caranzo said: “This aid provided me with a nutritious snack food that I can share with my family at home as well. Thank you.”

Corazon Aquino Primary School Principal Vilma Castillo said these cookies would provide a nutritional support to their students living in low-income regions, and went on as follows: “We are grateful to Turkish Flour Yeast and Ingredients Promotion Group (UTG) for their timely support coinciding with our efforts to raise awareness of correct nutrition within the framework of the National Nutrition Month.”

The Cookie Caravan goes beyond supporting such an important matter, according to UTG Chairman Mr. Turgay Ünlü. “It is priceless to see the smiles on the faces of the children, which inspires us to realize many more outreach programs to support our fellow Filipinos”, he said.
