Replica of Historical Ruins at Göbeklitepe, Homeland of Wheat

24.06.2015

With the involvement of Turkish Flour Yeast and Ingredients Promotion Group (UTG), an outdoor exhibition of the replica of Göbekli Tepe Temple D kept at Şanlıurfa Museum took place at Turkish Pavilion at “EXPO 2015 Milano” being held in Milano/Italy between 01 May-31 October 2015, in which our country participates under the coordination of the Ministry of Economy.

A hologram placed beside the replica projects a three-dimensional film introducing both Göbekli Tepe and Turkish flour industry.

Dating back 12,000 years, Göbekli Tepe is known as the oldest and the largest prayer center in history. With an approximate diameter of 300 meters and a height of 15 meters, Göbekli Tepe is located near Örencik village situated 15 km to the northeast of Şanlıurfa, commanding a broad field of view.

The research conducted and the findings obtained in the region reveal that the ancestor of wheat which is an important cultivated plant and which has hundreds of genetic variations was grown at the skirts of Göbekli Tepe, and that Turkish cuisine has been using wheat and wheat flour with its 12,000-year experience.
